What is Happening on Seesaw?

Seesaw is the online platform that our students in grades K-4 are using during this period of distance learning. If you were able to peek your head into one of our virtual Seesaw rooms, you would see lots of creative ways that our teachers are bringing their curriculums to their students. There are links to online resources like videos and books, recordings of teachers and librarians reading stories aloud, and countless different assignments for the students to do online. The teachers are also working hard to find activities that get the students away from their screens. Recent examples are a scavenger hunt around the house for polygons, an Alexander Calder art project and a PE hopscotch activity. In Seesaw you can also see the materials the students are sending back. In addition to the written work, these also include things like videos of students reading and pictures of their artwork. Perhaps the best things you could see peeking into these virtual classrooms are the interactions between the teachers and the students. The comments the teachers make on the students’ work and the messages back and forth, about school and also about life in general, are signs that despite the distance, there are still important connections being forged between the teachers and students.
