Professional Development from Colonial Williamsburg
On Friday six of our teachers were invited to attend a program put on by Colonial Williamsburg at Bryn Athyn College. The staff members from Williamsburg, including the man who portrays Thomas Jefferson, led the participants through a discussion on civil discourse. Activities included using primary sources and current articles to debate tensions our nation is historically wrestling with. Our teachers described the program as professional, knowledgeable, thorough and, most of all, inspiring, and they have returned with resources and plans for how they can incorporate the methods modelled in their US history courses. This program, which enhanced our teachers’ ability to make their history curricula come alive for the students, is another example of how our school benefits from community support and from the other New Church institutions in town.
