BACS Schedule Change

Dear BACS Parent,

Our students have lost all too many hours of learning due to bad weather conditions this year.  I am still looking for a song that might capture the mix of emotions we have all experienced this winter.  Even after adding two days back to our schedule, we still have 3 day’s worth of instructional hours that we must add back into our calendar.  I asked the head teachers to recommend a plan that minimizes impact on you and your children.  While there are no perfect solutions to our dilemma, we have developed what we believe is a solid plan for the months ahead.

Here is how we will be adding 15 minutes of daily instructional time beginning on Monday, March 17:

  • The BACS school day will officially begin at 7:55 AM.  This adds five minutes of instructional time to our daily schedule.  Our doors will continue to open at 7:45 AM.
  • Instructional time will begin again at 12:50 PM, instead of the normal start time of 1:00 for afternoon instruction.  This adds ten minutes of instructional time to our daily schedule (taken from lunch recess).  Music occurring at these times will continue as scheduled.

These additional 15 minutes of daily instructional time add up to approximately 3 days!  Part of the advantage of this change is that it does not disrupt existing bus schedules and it does not require students to be in school on scheduled vacation days.  We appreciate the fact that this may present a challenge for those who like to arrive in the classroom at 7:59 AM, since students will now be considered late if they arrive after 7:55.  We also recognize that the diminished time allocated for lunch recess may be of concern to some of you. Part of our goal with this plan is to continue to provide a break by preserving some remaining holidays.

Should we miss more days of school, we will hold school on the following days in order of the number of missed days:

1) Easter Monday, April 21
2) Afternoon school June 3-5
3) Memorial Day, May 26

I wanted you to be aware of this plan ASAP so that you could begin making plans.  I am sorry if these changes adversely impact your plans in some way.  Our faculty will dig deep so that we can continue to deliver on our promise of educating your child(ren) in the light of the three-fold Word.

Dr. Reid Prichett, BACS Headmaster
