After School Sports Begin

Our first session of after school sports began last week. Seventy students in 5th – 8th grades are participating in six week seasons of field hockey and soccer. Our goal for these programs is to provide our students with the opportunity to experience being part of a team. They can learn what it is like to be relied on by others, to work as a unit, to improve through practice, and many other valuable lessons that will serve them in future sports and elsewhere in their lives. For some this is their first experience on an athletic team and these students have the chance to try out a sport and see if it is something that they would like to make a larger commitment to as they get older. Other students bring with them experience from club teams. These students help model the sport and how to be a member of a team, but they also learn how to be leaders and to encourage others. One of the highlights of our program is the way that students coming from such different backgrounds come together as a team.
