Martin Luther King Day

The Bryn Athyn Church School was not in session on Monday, January 19th in celebration on Martin Luther King Day.  Last Friday every class gave meaning to this holiday by observing Dr. King in some way.  Each grade’s focus was different as the teachers covered the life of Dr. King, the civil rights movement and important ideas such as: diversity, leadership, service, non-violence, equality, freedom and providence.  It was a unique experience to walk down the halls on Friday morning and overhear our classes from Kindergarten to 8th Grade simultaneously discussing these important topics.  Hearing the teachers address the ideas so differently according to the developmental stages of their students was another clear example of the quality way in which our faculty meets the needs of our students.  Hopefully all of our grades began the long weekend not just knowing when we celebrate Martin Luther King Day but why we celebrate it as well.
